Jane 04:08
Jane (Laura Vecchione) My mother was a twin and when I came in I was named for the one whose life didn’t flower So she kept the neatest house in town And dared the dirt to take down another one Chorus: My name is Jane and I’m from the ridge of a bay You know I’ve had some pain and now I’ve got something to say And I might not write it right and I might get it all wrong But I’m gonna get it down, down, down anyway Well, I never could breathe in a house like a museum There isn’t much room to ever know Where you could grow And the rafters seem to hold Memories of what might have been (Chorus) Bridge: Sixty years of grieving someone else’s losses Bearing other people’s crosses And heralding another yet to come Forgetting I am also a beloved one A beloved one Well, now I’ve got two girls and they are to me the world And they try so hard to risk so many things I want to give them wings So I’ll have to claim what’s mine and then They can take the breadth of the sky (Chorus)
2.
Fool's Gold 04:10
Fool’s Gold (Laura Vecchione) In a northern town with an eagle eye I thought about you and the reason why I can’t let go You’re anywhere the wind blows Well there were crooks and thieves who came in fast On rails of steel and mountain blasts With hungry souls took all they could hold Chorus: But it was fool’s gold, just fool’s gold It was fool’s gold, where hope is sold It was fool’s gold, just fool’s gold And anyone can fall for fool’s gold Well the natives came to point the way A few blankets seemed a fair exchange When a winter’s chill Will take all it can kill And the women came for the trickle down To lease the night warm and round With a treasure sold anywhere the wind blows Chorus Bridge: And now the mountain’s hollow and the rain keeps falling down And where hearts were beating, there’s just an empty town And though the rising pines stand tall against the rain Empty holes and railroad tracks remain Well my landscape is this mountain high Robbed of every gem that shined inside my soul A cold wind blows So in a northern town with an eagle eye I finally see the reason why I gotta let go…. You told me you loved me so Chorus
3.
When the Fire’s Gone (Laura Vecchione/Matt Troja) My body aches with the memory of you But it just won’t take like it used to do When I had you in the daylight with the sun pouring through And the light from your eyes would burn a brilliant blue Chorus: But when the fire’s gone it just won’t burn When the fire’s gone it just won’t burn Last night I held you but today my heart is cold Like thieves we tried to steal, and I thought that I could hold A shred of love to clothe me when I have been so bare On these cold, cold nights, and you’re not there (Chorus) Bridge: Like a body when the soul has flown A house when every child is grown A feast when all that’s left is bone The wind blows through The branches out my window spread across the sky And I think about your fingers and I have to wonder why Love lingers in a memory like a ghost that can’t let go And the slowly fading embers of the season’s dying glow Chorus
4.
Breaking Heart in NYC (Laura Vecchione) You know you gotta walk to get anywhere in my town One foot, then the other, solid on the ground As you fly in your car, wheels spinning ‘round and ‘round There’s a Breaking Heart in New York City The concrete knows your dreams And the rhythm of your feet Pounding ‘round the corner to a café down the street Underneath the wood beam, eyes bright above a flame There’s a Breaking Heart in New York City Bridge: Everything must change, I know I just never thought you’d go Winter turns to Spring, we got seasons in this town But in that charlatan desert I guess the sun just wore you down Central Park remembers, Broadway smiles wide A cold fist in a pocket won’t come out to hail a ride And up above the Hudson bouncing high then sinking low Is a Breaking Heart in New York City Just a Breaking Heart in New York City

Penelope 04:53
Penelope (Laura Vecchione) In the pale moonlight of the sentinel sky Penelope unweaves Her hands unbind threads of time, unraveling her dreams She says, “I know how the bud feels, the ache before the bloom.” Well the heart will break to make room And my fate was bound to you Chorus: But come break me open, break open my heart I went down to the ocean when we were apart I’ve been drowned in the waves, I’ve been tossed on new shores And I can’t wait for you anymore I’ve been sleeping alone in the bed that we made with a memory that holds every word And you may row to these shores one sunlit morn, looking for your girl An ocean stirred within me and I tried to quell its tune Would you forgive me love? Could you forgive the moon? If open doors showed empty rooms? (Chorus) Bridge: Time has worked its hands on me I’ve held the hurt since you set sea Bound so tight behind these walls And I can’t stay so small anymore Well the sun’s gonna rise over changing tides forever as before And if you looked in my eyes after all this time, would you remember your war? You sailed to find your glory, and I stayed to keep you whole ‘But a heart can beat just so many years While eyes can weep just so many tears Would it be a breach of loyalty To sail my ocean and swim my own sea? Chorus
7.
ANGEL IN THE DEVIL (Laura Vecchione) There’s a piece of heaven in what’s fallen And a shaft of light that’s kept me holding on I know I said forever when you came calling But the darkness has reigned too long Chorus: And I can see the angel in the devil And it’s breaking me in two But I can’t stay in a broken heaven And that’s why I’m leaving you You walk a road that’s full of good intentions But my back just broke with one last straw Cause the hurtin’s too much to mention While I can still reach to find the door Chorus How many reasons can you give me? And how many tears can one heart cry? If love is an anchor Is that why I’m sinking to keep you afloat? So I’ll drag these broken pieces And I’ll walk the lonely world just to find A love to linger in my memory And on my lips like poison wine Chorus
8.
Deeper Waters (Laura Vecchione/Matt Troja) You want the stars to shine brighter than the day The moon reflected in her eyes forever full to stay But you run off every time that she’s got feet of clay Oh, who do you love? You would love to rescue her if she made no demands To win her hidden treasure without dirtying your hands And you would be a hero if it weren’t for the stand Oh, who do you love? Well, who do you love? Chorus: Deeper waters flow, deeper waters flow Deeper waters flow beneath your ocean view You build your castles and you light the night Shining bright for Daisy All alone You want the earth to quake whenever she’s around Blooms to blossom in the wake of her footstep on the ground Communication eyes to make without rendering a sound Oh who do you love? Well, who do you love? Chorus You’re grasping for the perfect jewel to hang on your disguise A gem that will complete the ruse and validate your lies Chorus

Softly, Slowly (Laura Vecchione) Softly, Slowly falls the snow Time and wind won’t let you go I’m already yours you know And if I could I’d take you now Waiting is a lonely game Praying you will call my name Echo chambers in my soul And if I could I’d make you whole And if I could I’d make you whole Time has a will and a pace of its own Winter won’t say what the spring’s gonna grow Your dimension is wider than mine And I am floating in your design And I am floating in your time Silence is the space between Where I place my faith and dream Time alone can heal your heart And if I could, I’d play the part And If I could, I’d play the part Time has a will and a pace of its own Winter won’t say what the spring’s gonna grow Your dimension is wider than mine And I am floating in your design And I am floating in your time

LAURA VECCHIONE RELEASES DEBUT CD: DEEPER WATERS Select tracks Mixed by L.A. roots-rocker Jim Scott
(Tom Petty, Lucinda Williams, Wilco)
Americana Radio on-board early: ‘Deeper Waters’ charts at #60
February 01, 2007 (Boston, MA) - Alt-country artist Laura Vecchione, (pronounced Veck-ee-OWN-ee) releases full-length debut CD Deeper Waters on indie imprint Selkie Records. An ambitious first effort, the singer-songwriter impresses with potent collection of original and thoughtfully-chosen cover songs. The words and music on Deeper Waters find their roots in country, rock and blues with the ever-present understory of Laura’s soul-stirring mezzo soprano.
Recorded at OMNI Sound Studios in Nashville, TN the CD features guest performances by some of Nashville’s most experienced session players: Mark Prentice (Lyle Lovett, Stacey Earl) on bass, Jim Hoke (Patty Griffin, Nanci Griffith) on horns, Mike Severs (Amy Sky, CC Jones) on electric guitar, John Gardner (SubDudes) on drums and Tommy Harden (Reba McEntire) on drums.
Defying standard categorization, Deeper Waters sees Vecchione demonstrate an easy command of a variety of American musical styles: alt-country, roots rock and old school R&B. Tight songwriting, addictive melodies and unconventional arrangements are the hallmarks of Laura’s sound. Themes of lost love, transformation and resilience tell the story.
In an advance review, The Boston Globe writes: “Laura Vecchione was born in New York and lives in Boston, but you sure can’t tell that from her music. Her new album, “Deeper Waters,” was recorded in Nashville, and you’d swear from listening to it that she’s the love child of June Carter and Blake Shelton (after some fortunate accident with a time machine).”
Laura’s ability to craft songs that are both elegant and accessible is evident. Deeper Waters opens with the B3 sounds, handclaps and richly layered harmonies of ‘Jane’. Blogcritics Jon Sobel calls the track “a towering anthem of self-assertion in the best tradition of stand-tall country singles.” ‘Breaking Heart in NYC’ showcases Laura’s grit-tinged playful side with its drunken shuffle and old-timey clarinet solo. The title track is a haunting pop lament in the vein of classic Stevie Nicks.
“A confident debut...” The Boston Phoenix “It’s a heady mix of country-soul...” Americana UK Magazine “....gutsy, soulful, edge-of-country style.” Maverick Magazine “Her voice is powerful and full of emotion” Metronome
The radio story builds. In it’s first week out Deeper Waters ranked as a Top 5 Most Added on the AMA Chart and continues to climb. At last look the CD was charting at #60. The Americana Airplay chart represents the reported play of terrestrial radio, nationally syndicated radio, satellite radio and internet stations. The CD reached #14 on the Roots Music Report.
George Knight at WBOS Boston says “The first song makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up every time....”
Rick Star at KFAN in San Antonio, TX says, "Laura Vecchione - We love you! You do such cool stuff! Put a star next to my name, and when you are in San Antonio, come give us a visit."
